For 20 years I have worked as an Educational Assistant at Portage View Public School. I have been an active Local 330 Executive Committee Member representing you in a number of positions including Steward, 1st and 2nd Vice President. I have also had the pleasure of representing you full time as your President since 2006.
I am committed to strong collective bargaining, contract enforcement and empowering our membership to stand up for their rights. I believe we have come a long way in recent years and we need to continue building this momentum. I will work to ensure that you, as Educational Support Staff, are respected and valued as professionals.
I am an EA at Waubaushene Elementary School, in my twentieth year as an employee of SCDSB. On January 22 I will be putting my name forward to continue in the role as a steward for the North District of Local 330. I have been representing the membership for seven years, first as a steward and then, after taking union and labour education courses, more demanding positions.
I believe that a well informed, unified membership is a strong local.
I love learning about human rights, labour law, local and world wide social issues, welcoming opportunities to develop my skills in these areas, and I will continue to do so. I am a strong proponent of respectful workplaces and a fair, equitable society, believing we can go a long way toward achieving these through adherence to individual, collective and human rights.
I have been employed with the SCDSB for the past 32 years, the last 22 as an elementary secretary (SASE). I have been an active Steward for the past 2 years sitting on 3 committees: Pay Equity, Job Description Evaluation and Member-at-Large, Sector 3 Boards of Education.
I am an Educational Assistant and have been with our board since September of 2000. For the past two years, I have represented our local as a Steward for central district. While serving on the executive, I have been an active member on various sub committees such as the Staffing committee as well as the Benefits committee. In April 2008 I was selected as a delegate to attend the OPSEU Convention in Toronto for four days, where I had the opportunity to develop a better understanding of how the union functions both at a local and provincial level. I recently attended a four day Health and Safety certification course which provided me with a better understanding of the Health and Safety Act. I will continue to complete further Health and Safety training. During the past two years I have gained knowledge and experience and I am ready and able to work effectively and productively on important issues. I feel that it is important to listen to the needs of our membership and to advocate for those needs in a professional, strong yet respectful manner.
Coming soon.
I have been involved with OPSEU Local 330 for many years, serving in a number of roles and positions. Some of these positions have included, President, Bargaining Team, Grievance Committee, Employee Management, and Pay Equity.
The experience, knowledge and educational opportunities that I have been afforded makes me both qualified and capable to be your voice at the Executive Table.
The executive meets each month during the school year. You can find meeting dates here. Elections for executive members are held bi-annually. If you are interested in becoming a member of the local executive, please consult the Collective Agreement for further information.
