Attention Participants in Benefit Plan

Our benefit plan is up for renewal.

We have been invited to go to tender with our Employer, the Simcoe Country District School Board.

Your executive has agreed that this is a process that would be in the best interest of all, and a process that you, the membership, have been requesting. By participating in this process we may need to increase the cost of benefits premiums for a short term to pay the Organization hired to complete the tender process.

Your executive has agreed to an increase of NOT MORE than 2% on your premiums, for a period of 3 to 6 months if necessary.

An example may be as follows:

Current: $127.50 (which reflects family and life $100,000)

Increased to: $128.77 reflects a 1% increase which is what we have discussed with the Employer for a period of 3 to 6 months

Please drop in and cast your ballot—someone will be available should you have any questions, otherwise ballot drop off available as set out above.

We are the support staff of the Simcoe County District School Board. We work in over 100 different locations throughout Simcoe County including elementary and secondary schools, Learning and Career Centres and our Education Centre. Our local consists of over 1600 full and part-time permanent and temporary employees.

Our positions include:

Educational Assistants

School Office and Clerical Staff

Learning and Career Centre Clerical Staff

Education Centre Secretaries, Clerical Staff, Buyers, Computer and Electronic Technicians and other Support Staff

We are part of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union which has over 100,000 full and part-time members, nearly 500 locals, and 20 offices across Ontario, we're part of the third largest union in the province. Being a Local who represents Boards of Education, this makes us part of OPSEU's Broader Public Service (BPS) Sector.
